Lesson Policies

Payment

Tuition is $120 flat fee per month for a weekly time slot. The payment is the same whether there are four or five Mondays in the month, for example.

Payment is due at the beginning of the month and is made through the community eduction website for students at Chanhassen High School and via check for private students at all other locations.

Practice

Consistent daily practice is the key to learning and getting better at any musical instrument. Here are a few starting points for how often to practice.

Beginners: 15 minutes per day

Intermediate: 30 minutes per day

Advanced: 60 minutes per day+

Note, it is better to practice consistently every day rather than have one long marathon practice session every couple days. 20 minutes of daily practice, 5 days a week yields better results than one long 2 hour practice session once a week. For more on how to get the most out of practicing, read through my practice tips posts.

Cancellation Policy

Please contact me as soon as possible if you have to miss a lesson. If it is a circumstance or situation out of your control, we can explore scheduling a makeup. I cannot schedule makeup lessons for things like sports, vacations, homework, etc. Once you pay for a time slot, it’s yours to use, but it’s up to you to use it!

Please do not come to lessons if you are sick. If you wouldn’t go to work or school that day, it’s probably best to stay home and get better. If you’re sick, but still feel like playing guitar, I can send you that day’s lesson via email.

Lessons are not always cancelled due to bad weather. I will be in touch on days with inclement weather.

On lesson days that fall on holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah etc., a makeup lesson will be offered for that week only.

Once a lesson has been taken during your time slot at the beginning of the month, you are responsible for payment of the full month. If you need to stop lessons, please do so before the first lesson of the month.

These policies exist so that lessons provide the right context for learning your instrument as well as to be fair to both myself and all of my students.

If you have questions about my policies, please contact me at nick@steellemon.com.
